Animal Farm

             In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the pigs make the farm a totalitarian society. In this novel, there are three things that make Animal Farm a totalitarian society; they are the use of social classes, the deprivation of rights regarding the written laws, and the use of executions.
             The lesser animals have a more difficult and miserable life than the pigs because of the lower social class they are in. The pigs break the commandments. Nothing happens when the pigs break the commandments, but when the other animals do, the get executed by Napoleon. This also violates the commandment that "all animals are equal". The pigs never have to work on the windmill while all the other animals have to and if they even question the pigs, they will get executed. Lastly, the pigs get more food than the other animals. The pigs are reducing the others rations just so that they aren't left hungry. This is how the pigs used lower social classes to make Animal Farm a totalitarian society.
             The animals have no say in the written laws that the pigs make. Whenever the other animals think that one of the pigs broke one of the written laws and the pigs find this out, the pigs go and change one of the laws that they've written for the seven commandments. When one of the pigs killed another animal, they changed the sixth commandment to say, "no animal should kill another animal without cause" (98). The other animals never know what any of the commandments are because they don't get to help make them and the pigs always change them so that they don't do anything wrong. The pigs deprive the animals of helping to write the written laws.
