Manic-Depressive Illness and C

Manic-Depressive Illness and Creativity This article was an interesting article to read. Everyone has heard that all creative poets are "psycho." This fact has been proven to some extent, the author states that many creative people have some form of depression or another. That this disorder may be what causes these creative people to be so creative. One thing that was interesting was the fact that a lot of times people will generalize all creative people to have depression, but the author state that is just a generalization. Although a lot of creative people do have some form of depression, not all of them do. So are we as a society saying that all of our accomplished, sometimes moody, and eccentric people all have some form of depression. I agree with the author in saying tha

It would have been interesting to see if all manic depressive people are creative, but she didn't show the readers the normal everyday people. They have a completely different cognitive state then what the everyday person does. Scientists are not really sure why their cognitive states are altered, but hope to find out in the near future. She not only took the results of her studies, but she showed the results of her colleagues as well. The author states that this may be what makes them creative. The fact that they can speak in alliterations without really thinking about it is amazing. What would the world be like without these manic depressive people? We wouldn't have the story about Huck Finn or some of the most famous pieces of artwork in the world. It might be kind of hard to find evidence against her point. Another thing that I found to be interesting was that hypomanics are more likely to use alliterations when they speak. This provides us with a different view of life through our poems, short stories and the novels we have all read at one time or another. At the end of the article the author states that the manic depressive people who are creative, should not get away untreated. I found in amazing how complex their minds can be. She has a ton of studies to back up the fact that most creative people do have some form of depression.
