All that Paul wanted was money, his education did not matter much to him; money was a priority to him, this eventually led to his death. The theme in both versions shows that money can be abused with great ease. In the written version it specifies that he does think of a plan; "the bank book, he knew, would not be returned before Monday or Tuesday, and his father would be out of town for the next week. " Also near the end of the movie it shows Paul standing on the side of the train tracks and you hear a train coming, it is uncertain if he dies or not, it is assumed by the viewer that Paul dies but it is not shown. When money is used for a bad purpose it will lead to negative response from the abuser. w he felt were not displayed, just his actions. The plot is unraveled by suspense and the theme is portrayed effectively. If money is used properly it can be used for good intentions. In both versions the descriptions of Paul are similar, both versions give detailed descriptions about his physical appearance of Paul's character. The effectiveness of showing these parts is because it leaves the viewer with suspense and ads a type of interaction with the viewer about what happened. The movie omitted some parts from the written version like when Paul steals the money from his manager at the bank, the movie did not show him deciding on what he was going to do with the money. In the written version it is told that he committed suicide and a lot of detail was given as to how he died; "he felt something strike his chest, - his body was being thrown swiftly through the air, on and on, immeasurably far and fast.
