The concept of family in Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein is openly depicted in the first chapter. The chapter starts out by talking about how the family is on of the most distinguished of th Geneva republic, with this being said the story then goes back-wards and describes the marriage story of Caroline. Caroline being the daughter of Beaufort, n honorable, wealthy man, found herself penny-less when her father died. her father's best friend decide to taker her in, and two years later they got married. The couple had one child and adopted another (Elizabeth Lavenza). The concept of family is relevant throughout chapter one because they were family oriented."And when, on the morrow, she presented Elizabeth to me as her promised gift, I, with childish seriousness, interpreted he words literally and looked upon Elizabeth as mine-mine to protect, love, and cherish." (21) This quote signifies the love in which Victor gives to Elizabeth, and to everyone he encounters, it seems as though Victor can become attached to something he has no clue about. The allusion presented in the chapter is the book of Cornelius Agrippa, Victor studies many books and says, "I read and studied the wild fancies of these writers with delight; they appeared to me treasures known to few besides myself. "(25) This quote signifies how much Victor is interested in the study of science and nature. He comes and takes care of Victor although he could be doing better things. Chapter four: Victor possess a passion to create a "monster" that has the same characteristics as he does. "I will write instantly and relieve them from the anxiety they must feel. " (43) Chapter six: The transistion made in chapter six from chapter five is caused by the note that was written to Victor from Elizabeth. " (54)Chapter seven: Sadness overcomes chapter seven, when Victor finds out his brother was murdered. " This epiphany of this quote is Victor comes to a sudden realization that all of his time is being taken up by the monster, and he is secluding himself from his family and friends.
