Oedipus Rex

Discuss Aristotle's Conditions Covering Greek Tragedy How Are They Illustrated In Oedipus RexBorn: 384 BC in Stagirus, Macedonia, GreeceDied: 322 BC in Chalcis, Euboea, Greece (1)Aristotle believed that in order to convince an audience to postulate a drama then there should be key elements to the story. The elements are known as conditions and if a drama has enough of these conditions then the production would be true to life and a classic work of art.(2) 1, Catharsis: The final purging of the pity and or fear that have been elicited in an audience by the dramatic action of a tragedy. According to Aristotle, catharsis is the purpose of tragedy.2, Hubris: Excess pride or arrogance, usually leading to ruin (a serious flaw in Greek heroes); excess of pride which shows disrespect for gods and man.3, Mimesis: The imitation of human action that is created in poetry/drama through diction, rhythm, harmony, and movement, Helps keep the drama true to life.4, Peripateia: Reversal of the Situation this should be probable or necessary.5, Anagoresis: A change from ignorance to knowledge. The height of the play when everything comes together.(3)

aracter flaw or error of a tragic hero that leads to his downfall. He was never told that they were not his parents until one day a drunk local man mentioned it to Oedipus and not being able to get it out of his head he confronted his parents naturally they denied it so he went to a number of oracles for truth but he was always told "you will kill your farther and marry your mother". (5)In the play called Oedipus The King written by Sophocles a classic Greek play writer. The feeling, as of sympathy or pity, so aroused(4)9, Mithos: The elaboration of a story. A few days after his birth the king and queen took him to the Oracle as they did in those times and the oracle prophesied that the boy would grow up and kill his farther and marry his mother. Hubris again is seen here but escalating. Eventually the Shepard that was supposed to kill Oedipus is called in and with a bit of force he tells us that he was supposed to kill Oedipus as a child. This is probably where Pathos would come into play. Now to keep the drama true to life by adding the snowball effect we have Mithos Oedipus puts a curse on his self. It would be a arguable case that Oedipus isn't really arrogant if his arrogance could be passed of a mistake butWhen we reach his facade to the people of Thebes he opens his speech saying :You have prayed to the gods. The audience would forget that she abandoned her child and offer their sympathy as she has taken her life in order for Oedipus to preserve his.
