Alphonse Capone
Alphonse Capone a.k.a. Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York. Alphonse Capone which parents were baptizes grew up in a rough district and he was a member of two "kid gangs", the Brooklyn Rippers and the Forty Thieves Juniors. Although Al Capone was a bright young man, he quit school in the sixth grade at age fourteen. Although Al Capone was a criminal he had normal jobs on the side e.g. he was a clerk in a candy store, an assistant in a bowling alley and a cutter in a book bindery. Soon he became part of the notorious Five Points gang in Manhattan and now he worked in gangster Frankie Yale's Brooklyn dive, Harvard In, which was an illegal gambling den. While working here he received his famous facial scars which resulted in the nickname "Scarface". He had insulted a costumer and was attacked by her brother with a glass. In 1918 Capone met an Irish girl named Mary "Mae" Coughlin at a dance. On December 4, 1918 "Mae" gave birth to their son, Albert "Sonny" Francis. Capone and Mae married later that year on December 30. Capone was arrested for the first time while he was working for Yale because of a disorderly Conduct. He also murdered two men in his first years as a gangster, bu
It is not known who actually committed the murder, but some of the likely suspects were: "Machine Gun" McGum, Tony "Joe Batters" Accardo and George "Shotgun" Ziegler. He also had made up an alibi because he was in Florida at the time the hit took place. The rumours were that Burke not even was brought to Chicago for his testimony in the Moran case, because it was thought that he maybe would tell about some of all the officers who were corrupt. The hit was not a success, because the main target Moran was in a cafeteria on the other side of the street. But he didn't get a light sentence, because he was found guilty in a lot of the charges and there for he was sentenced 11 years in jail. Actually the next day news papers wrote that it was the police who had performed the murders. But Burke was never brought to trial because he was instead convicted for killing a police officer and sentenced to life. After Capone had gained control over Torrio's organisation, he began murdering all the rival gangleaders until he was the only on left. A gangster called George "Bugs" Moran was beginning to irritate Capone, because he was gaining more and more power in Chicago. The police however put him away for a year on the charge of carrying a concealed gun. About a year after the murders, the police raided the home of Fred Burke, a professional killer and a good friend of Capone. Because he paid attention to thepoor people in Chicago and opened soup kitchens for them, he was even seen as a Robin Hood figure by some. But not everybody liked him because the police were beginning to come closer and closer to his illegal operations.
