             Mr. Guizac brings out the worst in people because he is genuinely a "good person." He is naive and hard working. When Mr. Guizac sees one of the Negroes steals a turkey, he tells Mrs. McIntyre about it. He does not have very much knowledge about social behavior and society, that it is expected that all Negroes steal. (O'Connor 202) Mr. Guizac does not have racial prejudice. He gets work done faster than other workers. Mr. Guizac is a faithful servant. He does not steal, or do other business to make more money. He cares about others, such as his cousin, who is still in Poland. He wants to bring her to America by marrying her to Sulk, one of the younger black workers on the farm.
             Mrs. McIntyre comparing other workers on the farm to Mr. Guizac sees the other workers with flaws. Mr. Shortly, a white employee, conducts other businesses to make more money. He does not get work done as fast as Mr. Guizac. Mr. Shortly smokes cigarettes in the barn, which Mrs. McIntyre does not like. Like Mr. Shortly, some of the Negroes have outside businesses to make money. The Negroes not only steal from Mrs. McIntyre, but they are lazy as well.
             Mrs. McIntyre changes her view about Mr. Guizac because he has violated a racial issue, a Negro marrying a white woman. She wants to fire him when she finds out that he is asking Sulk, a Negro, to bring Mr. Guizac's cousin to America. Sulk will have to pay for Mr. Guizac's cousin's transportation fee and, in exchange, his cousin will marry Sulk. (O'Connor 220) Mr. Guizac has done this negotiation with Sulk without letting Mrs. McIntyre know about it. Mrs. McIntyre is furious after she hears that Mr. Guizac is marrying his cousin to Sulk.
