The Green Mile
Image living through a whole century and all the people you would meet and all the things you would live to see, but think about all the people who would leave you behind. The hero in the Green Mile isn't afraid of what people think he is more concerned about helping others even if his job is on the line. The Green Mile follows the steps of the hero myth. The Green Mile begins in a retirement home where we meet Paul, the main character for the first time. An elderly gentleman is flipping through the channels and stops upon an old romance movie. Paul begins to tear and leaves the room and an older woman follows. Paul begins to tell her his story about the Green Mile. It starts within the Louisiana State Penitentiary where Paul works as the head officer of the Green Mile. The Green Mile is where inmates are held until they are put to death by electrocution. There isn't anything to special about Paul's life. He has a wife and no children. This is the first step of the hero myth because Paul is just an ordinary person and there is nothing special about him. His only problem is he has a horrible urinary track infection. Later on we meet a few more of the characters, Percy, the archetype of a bad slime ba
Paul has John in his life now and they get along very well from the start. John asks to not be blindfolded because of his afraid ness of the dark. They continue to sneak him out and head to Al's house. This is where he hits rock bottom and step seven of the hero myth. Now at 108 years old, Paul has seen his wife, his son and all of his friends pass away. He walks down past John's cell and John grabs him and coughs the disease into Percy and Percy walks to Wild Bills cell and shoots him. He puts his mouth to hers and sucks the tumor out of her brain. When John's time comes he senses all the hate toward him from others, but doesn't feel that from the officers. When they arrive, Al doesn't want John to touch his wife, but Paul insists that he trusts him. Dale has a long execution and all the witnesses rush out due to the smell. John didn't cough the disease out like he normally does instead he choked on it. This is Paul's big task and he has lots of obstacles. Meanwhile all the officers on the Green Mile dislike Percy. They ask John if he would like to do ant thing special before his day comes. John sits down beside her and she is instantly soothed.
