The Importance of Drinking Water

The sales of bottled water in America increase from year to year. Many people think that bottled water is sterile and free from contamination. There are many kinds of bottled water such as still (noncarbonated), carbonated, and mineral, each with different tastes. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested 39 bottled water based on their tastes. The first thing that makes the taste different is the type of plastic that is used in the water bottle. Bottled water can be divided into five types; there are spring water, purified drinking water, naturally sparkling water, soda water and seltzer, and mineral water. Spring water is free from microorganism that is usually found in the surface water. In the other hand, purified drinking water is processed by distillation to remove the mineral and contaminant. Next, naturally sparkling water is carbonated spring water. Soda water and seltzer is not bottled water but more of a soft drink. Finally, mineral water is like spring water but it contains some minerals. Good drinking water should be tasteless and pure. Bottled water in PET plastic has better taste than the processed water in HDPE because the water that is bottled in HDPE has a slight taste of melted plastic. Lastly, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a standard for the safest drinking water in U.S. All bottled water producers claim that their product is purer than tap water. In conclusion, the writer recommends that we need to drink enough water. Lack of water can cause health complications.
