Place You Can't Call Home

The story "Two Ways to Belong in America," by Bharati Mukherjee is about two women who move from India to America. They moved to America to study and get a good career. They had both originally planned on moving home to India after they had retired. While they were here, they ended up getting married. One of them married and Indian man the other a Canadian. After the marriages in when they're view of America started to change. The one sister did not like the way they treated immigrants and was against the American system. She did not care if she fit in, her plan was to retire and move back home to India. The other sister started to really want to be accepted. She started wearing American clothing and practiced American ways of life. The family back at India did not agree and neither did her sister. Though they had been alike almost their whole lives, they now had different views on two different places.
Recently I have experienced a similar situation as Bharati and her sister Mira. I didn't have different views as someone else; instead I myself had two different views on two places I have lived. I can relate to them about living in two different places and receiving a different view on both places. Even though they were both in the same town, to me they were completely different.
My mom was married this summer to a man named Chuck. Chuck lived in Lombard Illinois on Morningside Avenue with his twenty-year-old son Chris. Before my mom and Chuck were married and for a short time after, my mom, sister, and I lived in a two story house on Rochdale circle in unincorporated Lombard. A short while after my mom was married we packed up the house I had lived in for twelve years and moved in with my new step dad and stepbrother to the house on Morningside. This is where I began to notice the major difference of living in two different places.
