People consider him the Asovereign of [the] land@ because he saves Thebes from the Sphinx by solving the riddle that no other man is able to solve (Sophocles 23). This is the climax of the story in which after realizing that he killed his father and married his mother, he punishes himself by removing his eyes. Oedipus is not only a good person, he is a good king. He thinks that if he runs away, fate will not follow. Among Oedipus=s many traits, he has a tragic flaw, or trait causes his Afall. Oedipus had already done the act, but he still chose to ignore the signs. Oedipus also chooses to ignore Tireseus. Secondly, the messenger informs Oedipus that Polybus was not his father.
