equality for women

The Post Feminist Case Has Been Made; We Now Live In A World Of Equal Opportunities. Discuss The Evidence. The term of post modernism refers to feminism, as on old way of thinking, that is no longer relevant to the world today. The post feminist view is held by some western academics, which are usually male, and is sometimes traced amongst journalists. Their argument is that feminism is no longer necessary because of the achievement of equal opportunities. Over the past few decades these aims have been met. They argue that women can do or achieve anything. They can "chose a career, lifestyle, to have a family or not, to play sports, to join a club, to stay at home, to marry, to cohabit or remain single". Women can now have a home, children and a career. Some criticize post feminists, and claim they live in a fantasy world.Women's movement began in the late eighteenth century when women got the vote. It has progressed through the centuries and now women have equal opportunities and choices in employment, at home these days and have strong role models in government and the media.Education has seen a dramatic change for women. Post feminists argue women now choose to go to school of their own accord as

These roles portray men as being strong, attractive, and aggressive and to a certain extent arrogant and women being pretty, slim, polite and delicate. The media still perceives women as inferior as television adverts always portray them in a domestic way cleaning or as a sex object, emphasizing their femininity. Women are no longer expected to be traditional and stay at home and or children and many women are now actively resisting even living with men. Changes have also been made in the home environment for women. Arle Hochschild (1990) undertook an in depth study of fifty couples conducted over ten years. Policies and laws still reflect male bias. Feminists would argue that equality would never be achieved with the stereotypical roles of men being masculine and females being feminine. 68% of wives do most of the cleaning, 84% do the bulk of washing and ironing, 70% have the responsibility of preparing the evening meal and 45% do most of the routine household shopping. Although women are rising on the career scale they are still not being promoted to highly paid positions like men. Men are also are now being supported in employment as the majority are now allowed by law to take paternity leave. Post feminists would argue that women's status in society has increased immensely. More children's games and books are becoming unisex and not so stereotypical of gender, e. Women in employment are at there highest numbers of employment then ever. Post feminists would argue that there has been a breakdown of horizontal and vertical segregation and women no longer fear "the glass ceiling effect". It also showed that women have less leisure time and socialize more with the husband's friends more.
