Racisit Views of police

A recent television documentary involved sending an undercover journalist into police training with secret cameras. The reason for the secret cameras was to investigate whether or not men and women in the police force hold racist views. The journalist mingled and became friends with the other trainees and subsequently went out drinking and socialising with them on many occasions. The journalist talked to the group up to the point where they unknowingly gave their honest truthful answers to his veiled questions. There was only one Asian in the whole training group . He seemed always to be alone. The others seemed never to interact with him. When the journalist asked the group about racist views that they may have their fellow Asian trainee came up in conversation. Because their comments towards their colleague were very

The probationary officer started laughing calling him a "a stupid Paki"Finally, none of them had changed their views. Finally two points in this documentary that shocked me were: firstly one night one of the journalists "new friends" thought it would be amusing if the were to dress up as a member of the Klu Klux Klan and thought it would have been even more amusing to knock on the Asian trainee's door. The second point was near the end of the documentary, when they had all got places as probationary officers and were given placements across England. Everyone should have the right to choose what they think or believe. harsh, another member of the conversation warned them that the Asian man was in the room right next door and might overhear their conversation. As he couldn't move the vehicle the officer gave him three points on his license and a small fine. This documentary really spoke to me. In fact instead of getting better, you could say that their attitude towards ethnic minorities had deteriorated. No matter how tough the police force is officially on racism it doesn't seem to be changing the views of individuals employed by them. One officer stated that he had let off a white citizen who was parked wrongly. But when it came to the Asian gentleman he basically gave him no lee way whatsoever. However they did not go quite this far but the fact they had even thought about doing it, was disturbing. However if you hold racist views should you hold them or force them upon other people? Join a public service or where you have to deal with all races in day to day problems without discriminating between them? After all it is stated that by law we are all as equal as one another. They learned that the law had become very strict on racism against ethnic minorities.
