Life Changing Experience
Writing about something that had a positive influence on me was rather difficult for me. To be honest, I didn't know where to start. It was hard to pinpoint an exact moment where I began to question my values, my perspective on certain aspects, and overall my character. In the end, after tedious amounts of scribbling and doodling, I picked a time that to this day I remember and will continue to remember for as long as I live. When I was entering high school, my pastor had given me the opportunity to go to Mexico with other kids, older than me, to evangelize to the people of Mexico. Me going to Mexico wasn't about actually evangelizing to the people there, but rather to look cool in front of the older people and get it over with so that I could put this "trip" on my high school transcript. We spent months preparing for this "trip." The older kids took this very seriously and there I was being immature about everything. At that moment I couldn't understand why everyone else was taking this "tri
" Now this is coming from someone who grew up living in the suburbs of Philadelphia for a majority of his life. When the brother finished his portion, he lingered for more. Everything from the house we were staying in, to the cars we were in, and to the bathrooms was not "up to my standards. It made me see things in a different perspective. To this day, I am more grateful for the things in my life. Before the "trip" I didn't realize how much they did for me and how much they suffer for me. The one thing in my life I appreciate most are my parents. I remember stepping onto the plane, the excitement I felt because this to me was just another trip to a foreign country. And yes, they're things about my life that I still do complain about, but every time I do, I stop and think about my experience in Mexico. Maybe it was the fact that a bunch of Korean people just came to a Mexican country. I did not understand the actual importance of this trip. But on a serious note, everything was different for me.
