Critical Thinking and Decision

Critical Thinking and Decision Making There are numerous definitions about critical thinking depending on what book, article, or paper is being read. Basically, critical thinking is asking introspective questions and giving answers using reasoning skills. Decision making comes when you believe the results of your own first-rate analysis and act accordingly. This paper will answer the following questions: What is critical thinking and what is decision making?; my opinions about what they are, as well as how they relate to each other; how critical thinking is beneficial; and how the processes are applied in my present work environment. In order to reach a carefully planned conclusion to this paper I will begin with defining critical thinking. Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to monitor thinking while assessing facts and claims, to search for a scope of contradicting as well as corroborating information, and then making objective judgments on the basis of well supported reasons. Moreover, both processes are a central part of my work environment on a daily basis. From a practical point-of-view, critical thinking and decision making go hand-in-hand, one without the benefit of the other lessens the success of each. Decision making involves considering possible options and then reaching a certain conclusion on which option, if any, to adopt. The course material defines critical thinking as, "Listening and reading critically - that is, reacting with systematic evaluation to what you have heard and read - requiring a set of skills and attitudes. Using the student portfolios as an assessment tool was born by means of the critical thinking process where focus groups were asked to review different alternatives demonstrating assessment and then evaluating all the information. What is more, the benefits to being a critical thinker are varied and rewarding. The Paralegal Program is incorporating student portfolios which will measure assessment. Throughout the decision making process, people consider the costs and benefits of alternatives using critical thinking skills. In each aspect of the re-certification process critical thinking is a must in order to identify the issues that need to be addressed.
