Change is inevitable

             In literature there are many ways that a character can change. They may go from being happy to mad, from living to dead, or to sane to insane. In literature authors can show this is very obvious ways or in discrete ways. Lord of the Flies, "Before the End of Summer", and, " The Necklace" are perfect examples of this.
             The Lord Of The Flies starts out with Ralph, and young schoolboy, and Piggy, another schoolboy, come across a conch shell. Ralph blows it and that assembles the rest of the schoolboys on the island. The other boys on the island decide to make Ralph their leader. This is already showing how Ralph is changing; he's gone from being an average boy to being the leader of a group. Throughout the story Ralph struggles for control of the group. Every one else in the group wants to goof around all day while Ralph, is focused on getting everyone rescued. Ralph's major change throughout the story is having control to having none and being frustrated with this predicament. He gets more responsible as the story goes on but while this happens he looses control of the boys.
             In "Before the End of Summer," they have a classic protagonist. Bennie is a young boy who suffers through internal and external conflicts. Bennie's grandmother is an old lady who has chest pains, which are really heart attacks. This is his external conflict. Bennie overhears the doctor tell his grandmother that she is going to die and these pills are just going to ease the pain. This internal conflict is the main conflict through out the story.
             As the story continues you find out about Bennie's motive. He must keep his Grandmas problem a secret because he is not supposed to know about it. His Grandmas problems are is creasing and Bennie wont tell his mother. His Grandma keeps making excuses for her strange heart attack induced behavior.
