             Good literature is a piece that has an affect on the reader. A well written literary piece should be something that holds your interest and makes you think. A story does not have to be an action thriller to hold your attention, if it is well written it can have the same effect on you as a action packed novel.
             Any story should have a well formulated plot and good character development. It should illustrate the attributes of everyday life rather than a fantastical elaboration of the esoteric. The story should leave room for different interpretations and not have a single dogmatic resolution. There should be a certain level of suspense that keeps the reader engrossed in the piece, suspended until the scene unfolds. The author should not always say exactly what he's trying to impress upon the reader, but rather illustrate it in a way that makes you have to go back and look for what is hidden in the written expression. The story,"A Sorrowful Women", is a good example of that technique.
             Each reading showcased different aspects of writing. The exert from, " A Secret Sorrow", and "A Sorrowful Woman", showed how two stories about anguish can be presented so differently. One gave you a idealistic ending, and one was more open ended and less satisfying in the respect of he fairytale-like format. "A Secret Sorrow", was illustrated much differently than "A Sorrowful Woman", simply by the narration. "A Secret Sorrow," gave you an elaborate play by play description while "A Sorrowful Woman," gave you just enough to see the progression in the plot.
             Another way of writing a good literary piece is to make it relevant to the writers. Write about something that will hit home.
