Some people believe that school vouchers will give parents a freedom of choosing the right school for their child. There will be a variety of school to choose from and this will improve the education even from the public schools. Others are arguing that this is not the solution. But the truth is a most private schools are religious schools. What I fear the most is Vouchers will open the door of government subsidy to institutions which many people would find offensive. Public schools accept all students regardless of their academic ability, handicap or family background, while private schools generally do not admit students who they expect will bring their average scores down or who require special accommodations. uld compete for as many vouchers as possible by offering the best education possible. Of course, private schools might very well open up overnight in response to the sudden availability of government money. But we all know the shortage of qualified people to teach the quality of those new schools would immediately be open to question. Any radical religious group which opened its own private school would be entitled to those same voucher funds because the courts have consistently ruled that the government cannot favor one religious group over another. As we know Touro College has a screening exam for the accounting majors because they what their score should be high. Government money means government control, and in the long run, those private schools won't be so private at all they will be forts to take in every student and we will be in the same situation that we are now. They believe the private school sector is made up of secular schools, and there are a small percentage of religious schools. The argument that public schools will benefit from the competition that vouchers will encourage is necessarily true.
