Grohl recorded a 15 song cassette with the assistance of Barrett Jones “As an exercise to see what [he could] accomplish on [his] own” (Current Bio. The cassette was released on Simple Machines Record Label in 1991. In 2002 The Foo Fighters released their most depressing (but still excellent) album to date, One by One, which also received good reviews. Grohl played all the instruments on the cassette. Within a month, Cobain was admitted to a recovery center, escaped and shot himself in the face with a shotgun. At his home in Virginia, Grohl recorded the next Foo Fighters album, There is Nothing Left to Lose, which showed once and for all the immense talent of the Foo Fighters, and was also Stahl’s last album to be recorded with the Foo Fighters.
