The truman show
In this movie, Jim Carrey is Truman Burbank, a man whose life is a fake one. The place he lives is in fact a big studio with hidden cameras everywhere, in the start of the movie a lamp that belongs in a tv-studio falls from the sky, but Truman dosen't think more about it, because in the radio they just say that it fell of an airplane. All his live he have lived in this little coast town called Seahaven, lately he has been wanting to leave and go to fiji, but runs into problems every time. From he was little he wanted to be and explorer like colombus, but his teacher just laughs at him, and says, theres nothing more to discover.All Truman's friends and people around him, are actors who play their roles in the most popular tv-serie in the world: The Truman Show. Truman thinks that he is an ordinary man with an ordinary life and has no idea about how he is exploited. One day, Truman accidentally bumps into a catering area backstage, where there were supposed to be an elevator. He immediatly runs to his friend Marlon and tells him about it, but of course Marlon won't belive him, after this Truman becomes very suspicious. One day he pretends to sleep but he really runs away, he won't to discover the truth.
Paradise can never exist when we are all so different, and even if Christof has actors to create a perfect virtual world, the one thing he can't control are Truman's mind and what he thinks of. And reality can't be perfect, even though we try, it will never be perfect because we are all so different. In order to do so, we create situations where we are fully in charge, where we decide what happens, and when it happens. Truman is almost killed in the violent storm, but Christof stops it before this happens. This tells us that he can't forget her. It shows that Christof no longer are in charge in the program, and Truman does whatever he wants to. He tries to find her later on, but of course it wasn't her real name he got. He tries to make pictures of her by, cutting out parts of faces on models in some magazines. Even though Truman has all he needs to have a good life, it is fake and wiil never satisfy him. The existence of The Truman Show in the movie, is the result of humanity's need to play god. When Truman grew up he wanted to be an explorer like Columbus, but he of course coulden't, and Christof made him do otherwise, he became a desk clerk, where he is very unhappy. Right at the end where it all falls together for Christof, he speaks to Truman and says that he knows him better than himself and Truman replies "You never had a camera in my head!" - Christof thinks that the world he has created for Truman is perfect, but it is still only a virtual world and it can never be real. Here Christof decides what happens to Truman, and decides what the viewers gets to see. There are no books that tells us the pourpose of life, though many have tried, no real answer has been made.
