Expectations in state of war

             Based on the slide show, I think that the book is about the different struggles encountered of a Filipina as the time pass. I think that this was about the shattered dream of a Pinay whose only wish is to live life to the fullest and to have a secured future. I believe that the story and her situation becomes more complicated with its setting, a period where the Filipinos are conflict in reclaiming their land against the great force of Americans. With the situation she is currently facing, the only way out is to do everything what it takes just to become a citizen of America. Thus, she thought of a way to become one, by marrying an American. Later she found out that everything would end not according to what she had envisioned.
             Furthermore, I think the novel provides an 'eye-opener' about how our country has encountered war against other countries and against our own, as well as how do we see this foreigners and how do these foreigners se us natives. I also think that the novel would provides some insights on why history keeps repeating in our country, how we respond to it, and also how are we affected from it.
             Basically, I think that most predominant theme in the story is in the title itself, State of War. I think that the story would show the different states of war as we go through the pages of the book. I can see that there would be our war against other countries, our war against other Filipinos, and also our war against ourselves. I also, as what I have mentioned earlier, it would also be about how history keeps repeating itself and it will continue repeating until we do not learn from our mistakes. Issues on Racism could also be seen from the story -- how we are inferior and how they are superior.
