Some people might sit and wonder what qualities does it take to be an American? The definition of an American is of or relating to the United States of American or its people, language, or culture. However, an American is really someone who cherishs their freedom of speech, freedom to fight for their country, and freedom from slavery.
             First, an American has the right to speak there mind, which is freedom of speech. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, " In your statement you asserted that our actions,even though peaceful, must be condemned because they precipitate, violence. Isn't this like condemning Jesus because his unique God-consciousness and never-ceasing devotion to God's will precipitated the evil act of the Crucifixion?" In this statement he truly speaks his mind. Another famous person who express there freedom of speech is Patrick Henry: [No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men of ten see the same subject in different lights; and ,therfore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertainining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth and without reserve. This is no time for ceremony.]And the last gentlemen to support these facts are Orwell, " peace, freedom, and security." These very famous speakers backup the statement about freedom of speech.
             Secondly, an American has the right to fight for there country. Many people feel honored to fight for their country,for example, Nathan Hale said, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Also, President John F. Kennedy said, "Americans would... pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardships, support any friend, oppose any for to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
