College Sex Life

             Being a first year college student, every day I am becoming more aware of the college sex life. There is no doubt in my mind that this is an issue in most colleges. The main concerns are sexually transmitted diseases often acquired from unprotected sex.
             In April of 2003, a survey was done to acquire first-hand knowledge on these issues. It was conducted by Harris Interactive and it surveyed 516 students that were between the ages 18-22 and were full-time 4 year college students. The survey revealed that 95 percent of the students surveyed "agree that college students do things on campus or with other students that they would never want their parents to know about." Additionally, the survey revealed that more than half (52 percent) stated that "they would never have participated in some of these activities if they were living at home while attending college." The survey results go on to state that 68 percent of college students who have unprotected sex do not believe that they are at risk for a sexually transmitted disease (STD), and almost half of the students who are sexually active have never been tested for one.              Why does the sexual activity have such an increase in college than in high school? One reason is confidentiality. In high school, especially smaller schools, rumors can spread much easier and faster than in a college atmosphere. It is also more socially acceptable if you have sex in college than in high school. After all, it's just a thing you do in college. Let's face it; it's much easier than in if you were living at home. It wouldn't be hard to find a place to do it at college, whereas at home it could be a problem. What do you have to worry about? Your parents aren't going to find out; they don't know what you're doing.
