Death Penalty

Look at the Bright Side of the Death Penalty Too many people are the victims of murder, rape, piracy, kidnapping and other terrible crimes each year, and the death penalty should be enforced in all states to bring the kind of people that commit these crimes to justice. Although some states will not adopt the death penalty, it is a means for punishment that criminals deserve for these types of crimes. People that are against the death penalty should realize that yes, it is killing a person, but only because that person wronged another person the way that no human should be treated in his/her entire lifetime. The use of the death penalty will frighten these criminals, and fewer crimes will be committed because they know that the consequences of their actions could mean death. The death penalty has been used widely around the world for thousands of years to keep criminals off the streets. In the United States, the death penalty was first used on June 25, 1790. Since then, different forms of executions have killed 336 men and 4 women. Of these 340 people, 39% were white, 35% were black, 19% were native, and the other 7% were either Hispanic or unknown (deathpenaltyinfo.org, 1) There are several reasons for these executions

In the 1930's, more and more people and states began to support the death penalty. As of January 1, 2003, there are 3,692 people on death row across the nation (4). During the middle of the 1920's, states began searching for a more humane way to execute inmates. During this same time period, three states limited the use of the death penalty to the very worst of crimes. It prevents inmates from getting out of prison and committing more crimes. The majority of the inmates were executed for murder. Over the years there have been many executions carried out. But as time passed on, that support for the death penalty began to change. There are several methods used to execute inmates. The gas chamber was believed to be a more humane form of the death penalty at the time. All of the others were executed for piracy, rape, rioting, kidnapping, or spying. Though the subject is extremely controversial and many states refuse to adopt it as a form of punishment, the death penalty will frighten possible criminals and prevent them from committing dangerous, violent, and even deadly crimes. The death penalty makes other bad criminals afraid to violate and break the law for fear of being executed. Hangings, one of the oldest and most in humane forms of the death penalty, is now long since abolished in most countries (including the United States).
