Piracy

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, welcome and thank you all for coming.

This evenings issue is that of piracy, and how its affect on society is overrated.

Me being a professional in the field of information technology, I will present to you the argument backing up my statement, explaining the different varieties of piracy and their purposes.

For the purpose of this argument, piracy is defined as the unauthorized use or reproduction of copyrighted or patented material.

Piracy, something everyone has most likely committed once in their lives.

Either through the downloading of music or by simply copying someone else’s work. It is not a rarity to come by, and I will give examples of why it is overrated.

To begin, piracy can come in the following ways when it is related to the use of computers, it can either be in the form of a crack, the use of a computer to copy software, downloading serials or the use of p2p (peer to peer) software. Each method is simple and effective.

Recently, peer to peer software has become a major issue throughout the world, In particular, napster. Napster is a peer to peer program that allowed the sharing of music from different users all over the world, the main problem

. . .

One particular reason why this method of piracy is overrated because people are using it to make money, which I agree should be illegal, but for ones personal use, the only harm being done is that the company who created the game loose less than 80 dollars. The sharing of music from one user to another has been going on for years and only until recently has it become an issue.

Software copying is not necessarily illegal; it is just what people do with it that makes it illegal.

Napster, who was put out of business, is now back but allow users to pay only a small price for a song, which is cheap and legal. The way they are created is by specially made programs that generate serials according to the details you enter.

Continuing with cracks, a crack is basically a small program that removes restrictions from software, but I will go into more detail. found in this is that some musical artists, such as Mettalica, are reportedly loosing money and have been resorting to legal action, which inevitably put napster out of business.

Serials are not illegal; it is just the pirated software that it is used for that is.

The final type of piracy I am speaking about is serials. The Software allows someone to copy other forms of software or information from a disk or to a computer or from a computer to a disk.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have spoken to you about several different forms of piracy, how they are used and why they seem worse than they actually are. Many artists believe that it isn’t an issue and they will allow the downloading of their music. He would install the game onto his computer, install the crack which is usually automatic, and then he can return his game to the rental store if that is where he got it from, and now have a full version of the game that he could once not afford. Serials are only a form of piracy when they have been created.
