             Case Analysis Example Case: Cumberland Metal
             ere is an example case analysis, using the Cumberland Metal Industries (CMI) case. There are sample passages for each of four main sections: Executive Summary, Current Assessment, Strategic Options, and Tactical Plan. There is also an example appendix. You don't have to use these sections in your case analyses, but it has worked well for many students in the past.
             Note that both the size and content of each section change from case to case. For example, in the CMI case, there is almost no important information on the "PEST" environmental forces, and there is a lot of detail on pricing. For other cases, PEST forces might take up a whole page, and there might be no information on pricing. In addition, although this example analysis clearly favors one course of action, there is never a single "correct" recommendation for a case. If you had written an analysis of CMI, you could disagreed with the recommendations here and still have received an A. There are also many aspects of the case that are not addressed by the example below. What is important for your assignment is describing and defending your recommendations for the case. In doing so you should mention advantages and disadvantages of your choices. Finally, please note that the good and bad features of this example are illustrative rather than exhaustive.

             Suggested length: One paragraph to one page.
             The Executive Summary is a brief overview of the main points or problems facing the company in the case, and of your recommendations for the company.
