             Recently, some legislators have proposed that all Drunk Drivers, after their second offense should be imprisoned for a period of six months. Should we imprison Drunk Drivers for a period of six months after their second offense, Proponents argue that Drunk Drivers are the cause of the majority of accidents in our states, yet their are never dealt with firmly. Opponents, on the other hand argue that this type of punishment is too harsh on Drunk Drivers and is unnecessary. We should imprison Drunk Drivers for a period of six months after their second offense because Drunk Drivers cause most major accidents, imprisonment is the best form of rehabilitation, and drunk drivers destroy public and private property.
             First, Drunk Drivers cause the majority of major accidents in our states. An estimated 65% to 80% of auto-related accidents in the United States where caused by Dunk Drivers. In 2002-2003 it was reported that 40,000 people lost their life to a Drunk Driver while on the same road as a drunk driver. Another estimated 10,000 people lost their lives by being on the streets while walking across the road at the same time a drunk driver was on the same road. The Government losses about $5.8 billion dollars on life losses caused by a drunk driver every year to compensate the families. Drunk Drivers need to be imprisoned for these reasons for a period of time and to save other peoples lives.
             Second, imprisonment is the best form of rehabilitation for drunk drivers. By imprisoning drunk drivers for a period of time will teach the person and make them realize that it was not worth drinking and driving just to end up in jail the next day. They can receive extensive counseling and classes on the effects and the damages they can cause while drinking and driving. They would lose their driving privileges and would need to take D.W.I classes. Major fines may be set by the court that may reach up to $8,000, which include classes, reinstatement ...
