THE MODELS OF POLITICS IN THE
Politics, have always existed since the dawn of time, they exist because people argue and disagree, about how they should live, who should govern over whom and how power is distributed or monopolised. We all have different views/beliefs/opinions that we believe to be true and right and the act of reconciling between these differences and bringing these different believes and views together is politics, although this definition itself is political, as there is no true definition of politics for we all see it and define it from different angles and perspectives. This is always a point of debate as it is in politics, which are all about debate. There are 2 main models of politics that are widely known which are in themselves not concrete, politics as a creative compromise and politics as a struggle for power, each have their arguments as to which is viable and productive. This essay will briefly explain and analyse both models of politics while referencing champions of each model with historical background of where each model originated. The next step will be to decide and choose which model is most workable explanation while looking and relating it to an example from the world today. In conclusion it will object
and in each case its about the fight for power and the rise to the top. Defined as the activity by which differing interests within a given unit of rule are conciliated by giving them a share in power. The emergence of disputed votes in the state of Florida, which was coincidentally governed by George W Bush's brother. There is yet hope, creative compromise can be implemented, reconciling the many truths and compromise can be practiced, many groups in society can have a say in politics but wont be done without first struggling and gaining power; creative compromise should compromise and recognise the struggle for power as political and accept that politics are practices outside government and constitution and strive to gain power by following the second model and then when in power implementing the values and ideology of creative compromise; but we must be careful because there is a danger of getting carried away. Looking back at both models and stopping for a moment to look at things from a different perspective we should be able to see that the first model of politics sounds very possible and sounds perfect in theory but upon critical analysis we realise that its too idealist and perhaps even naive for it disregards or ignores power and doesn't even consider power struggle as politics ". As for the model of politics as a struggle for power this isn't all gloom and doom, it isn't all bad and cynical search for power, this model can be put to work towards a fair and equal society provided the good intentions are present. Later on when in power the new powerful government implemented changes that benefited the rich and powerful and gave them more power (Tax cuts). Who will rule over whom, it suggests that we do not have an equal right to contribute to or influence the decisions that govern us. Upon reflection on both models of politics the model this essay recognises, as the more workable in todays world is politics as a struggle for power. It is also about the sharing of power between the different factions and groups of society through compromise and reconciliation and giving them all a voice and a say in parliament. They have also avoided inflicting damage to each other, another Machiavelli lesson followed. This method of politics originates from ancient Greece and the thinking of Plato but it developed through out the centuries and one of the most famous and prominent champions of this method was Machiavelli, the Italian renaissance political scientist. Politics as a creative compromise:Politics stem from society; it sees politics as a humane and courageous activity. Conclusion:We have looked at 2 very different political models and from critical analysis 'politics as a struggle for power' was chosen as the more effective model; but this doesn't mean that creative compromise is hopeless, and isn't workable, it is provided it casts off its naivety and embraces some cynicism.
