Throughout my life I have learned many things that I can apply toward my future. The one person that has taught me most of these things is my father. He has taught me hunting, mechanics, and carpentry skills.
             Hunting is something that most guys learn at a young age. I learned how to hunt when I was about 10 years old. My father had told me about a month before geese season came that I was going to be able to go hunting with him and my grandfather. I was so excited because it was going to be the first time I had ever been hunting. I knew that there was going to be a lot to learn but I didn't realize how much until the day actually came. When we got to the hunting grounds, my dad took out his riffle and administered the proper techniques in which it should be used. That cold winter day we only ended up seeing about six geese, and I didn't end up shooting anything, but when I returned home, I was just proud of the fact that I had learned how to hunt. Hunting has affected my life because if I ever needed to use nature to survive I would be able to kill and prepare my own food.
             Another thing that my father taught me was how to work on cars, which is probably one of the most useful things that I have learned from my dad. Knowing how to work on my own car has saved me a lot of money. I don't have to pay labor charges on general car repairs that need to be performed, such as paying to have someone change my oil or changing spark plugs. Whenever something goes wrong with my car, I usually can figure it out and fix it myself so that I don't have to take it to a mechanic. The reason I don't like taking my car to a mechanic is because it takes what feels like years for them to get my car fixed. Through the process of my father training me in mechanics, we saved money and gained automotive skills while restoring a 1966 Pontiac GTO which I still service and drive today.
