Many things are needed to drive, such as, a (working) car, a license, gas, the list goes on. But, the most important thing needed to be a driver is responsibility. Responsibility is the most essential and necessary thing in almost everything, but it is especially important while driving. Without a sense of responsibility no one should be able to drive. When driving fate is controlled by the person behind the wheel, they can live or die. A driver can also control the fate of others, like passengers in their car or even other drivers that are on the road at the same time that they are. It's so easy for someone to ruin another person's life while driving. It's a scary fact but it's true, someone on the road upset with their own life can drown themselves in drugs or alcohol and take your life. There are so many risks while driving, just about anything can happen. A car tire could blow out, the motor could seize up, the brakes could go out, and numerous other terrible things could happen on their own without the interference of the driver. The more that I think about this subject from this perspective the more I realize how much damage I could have caused and I deeply apologize for it. People need to take control of their driving skills and read all their state's laws and regulations, even read the side notes that give you tips for driving under adverse conditions. An incredible amount of lives have been lost because seatbelt laws weren't applied as strictly as they should have been. Always drive defensively, never aggressively. If you're responsible in taking care of it then it will be less likely to be the cause of an incident which could have been prevented. The number one cause of death in the united states for teenagers is automobile accidents. When people are riding in someone else's car it is important that the driver realizes that all the people in his or her car have now become his or her responsibility. Being a responsible driver is also part of being a responsible member of a family. We don't need road ragers or drunk drivers, what we need are safe drivers. This is the most extreme irresponsibility there is on the road today. There was snow on the ground and I should have been more attentive as to how icy it was and I shouldn't have hit the gas so hard and when my tires locked up I should have removed my foot from the pedals and attempt to steer away from it. And, if anyone is stupid enough to get a third DUI, then they should have their licenses revoked permanently and be forced to spend no less than three months in jail. And could you imagine the guilt that someone who killed someone else while driving would have to live with.
