scarlet letter

The Reverend Mr. Dimsdale and Mrs. Edna Pontellier suffer a quintessentially laggard, and equally afflictive demise; which is comprised of the struggle for social and emotional bliss. However, their deaths signified a sign of victory rather than a sign of submission to their struggle itself. Throughout their fight inner --secret-- emotions, social acceptance and pain built up inside both Mr. Dimsdale and Mrs. Pontellier. The problem was that neither of them had any way to vent out this inward pressure. At some point both of them had to blow, and at that point all the secrets would be revealed, and at that point all the pressure will be diminished to nothing. This point of newfound bliss, however, would be their deaths, the slow rise of pressure is finally released in a fatal eruption of emotions. Mr. Dimsdale and Mrs. Pontellier paid for their harboring of emotions, which kept them from being accepted. Mr. Dimsdale's struggle was to hide his adulterous affair from his population and clergy. Each story brings a moral to the table, The Scarlet Letter, bringing the moral of the truth, The Awakening, bringing the moral of the truth as well. She was simply bored and sort of an outcast of the social people. All of this stress and dysfunction drove her to her knees and almost killed her. Edna and Dimsdale struggled to be happy while creating a world of darkness whose destruction brought light, but only enough for them touch the bliss of the true world and then return to where they were originated. Between this stress and the dullness of her husband, Edna made a conscience decision to look elsewhere for pleasure and bliss. The weird thing about happiness is that it s not easy to achieve, or it is harder to achieve than sadness. However, by becoming a rebel she gave up who she really was in order to prove something to the gossips. The explosive release of stress and emotion was much to great, so great in fact that it took her life along with it. Edna and Dimsdale suffered from this hell, a hell that drives the lie. If you take the hard road to happiness it will seem harder, but it is definitely, most definitely not as hard as holding an explosive emotion that will escape. She has to break own at some point, or she has to make a decision to break through a border that no woman has ever crossed. However, lying can only lead to a perilous toil that will only lead to a breaking point, a point of no return per say.
