Moral Behavior - Born to Be Good

             "Born to Be good," is about the moral behavior of people. Sociobiologists say we are biologically driven towards forms of altruism when caring for our families. Helping others offers rewards for our self-interest such as the praise of on-lookers, gratitude from the person being helped, the warm feeling of knowing we have done a good deed and, the benefit of avoiding guilt, shame or punishment. Good behavior some say can be attributed to self-interest. High empathy people, who were deprived of the opportunity to help, felt just as good when someone else helped instead. This indicates a genuine wish to relieve the victim's suffering rather than a desire for praise. Empathy is common in very small children. Empathy is an important component of moral behavior, but morality cannot rely on empathy alone because it can lead us to make unfair decisions. Good behavior may be motivated by empathy. In unexpected situations people are uncertain how to behave and are unsure about what they are seeing. They conform to the behavior of others who are also unsure of how to proceed.
             I am in favor of the prospect that people are born to be good. I think the minute a human life enters the world, him or her are born of purity and innocence.
             Reading "Born to be good," really made me think of how our society acts as a whole. Do people really act on the misfortunes of other people or situations to benefit themselves? I do believe that people act in certain situations for benefits because they need to hair praises from others and feel gratitude from within by helping others. I do believe people really have sincere heartfelt attributes to which they act upon for the goodness of others. People in my option feel a warm sense of satisfaction for doing good deeds. In my own experiences, doing a good deed for a stranger or even someone whom I know gives me a warm feeling inside. I do not expect to hear praises for doing good deeds. I just d...
