Cloning and Designer Babies

One of our biggest controversial issue is cloning and "designer babies". As we get older, technology and its abilities are advancing to reach newer goals. Today we can do something called cloning with animals, and now humans. However this hot topic has raised many voices. With the help of something called genetic engineering people can design their own children. Genetic engineering is the transfer of genes from the chromosomes of one organism to those of an unrelated organism. As a result of all this, soon to be parents are able to choose certain traits and qualities of their future babies. For example, the traits can include eye color, sex, hair color, and skin color. Some people view this new technology as an opportunity to be seized, while others, churches and civic groups see it as an unacceptable way to control the fate of an unborn child. I believe that if parents want to "design" their future children who are we to stop them. There are many advantages and pros then most people realize.
The length of life expectancy could, and most probably would, be lengthened. Genetic diseases such as Downs Syndrome and Spina Biffida would be reduced or avoided. The quality of life for those who would of otherwise suffered the effects of the disease for which there is no improvement would increase. Major killer diseases, mainly
heart disease, Britons most common cause of death, would certainly be less
common, or gone for good. Conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, heart failure, degenerative joint disease, and other problems may be made curable if human cloning and its technology are not banned. The average person carries 8 defective genes inside them. These defective genes allow people to become sick when they would otherwise remain healthy. With technology we want to use, it may be possible to ensure that we no longer suffer because of our defective genes. Scientists b...
