guernica
On April 27th, 1937, unprecedented atrocities are perpetrated on behalf of Franco against the civilian population of a little Basque village of Guernica in northern Spain. Picasso uses a heavy black outline to define important areas. He uses line to draw in his figures. The painting is balanced; Picasso fills the entire canvas with figures of distorted creatures. This work is my favorite painting of human creation. A ghost it seems holds a candle to light the scene, but light only shines to the right. If you look carefully, you will notice that two diagonal lines that intersect at the center divide the painting. The mural is divided into organic and geometric shapes. Picasso uses line to divide his painting into random geometric and angular areas.
