             In Orwell's Animal Farm, Orwell writes of a continual power struggle between Napoleon, Snowball, Jones, and Pilkington. Power has been corrupting people ever since the beginning of the world's history, like power in the hands of Napoleon corrupted him. The farm was first ruled by Mr. Jones through a dictatorship in which the animals had no say in their life. A dictatorship is a type of government that is ruled by one person ruling a body allowed no individual freedoms (Couples). Napoleon like the other animals thought the ruling style of Mr. Jones was cruel, yet he still seized power and ruled like Mr. Jones. Orwell shows the readers exactly how communism and a dictatorship work through the actions of the main character Napoleon.
             Although Napoleon does become consumed with greed and power, he did appear to be a good leader to begin with. Napoleon, like the other animals, wanted change. Napoleon felt that he had been mistreated by Mr. Jones. Old Major was the inspiration for the revolt against Mr. Jones. Old Major told the animals of the ways their lives really were and how they could be better. Old Major said, "No animal in England is free. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth" (Orwell 5). Old Major's comments applied to all the animals on the farm, even Napoleon. Old Major proposed the ideas of the revolution, but did not know when or even if the animals would overthrow
             the dictator, Mr. Jones. Old Major did not propose action, just the ideas for the revolution. After Old Major's death the animals made a decision to take action.
             Napoleon took Old Major's suggestions of revolution literally and then a step further when the power corrupted him like it had Mr. Jones. Napoleon wanted change and in the process of change realized what power he could hold. After the revolution Napoleon began to see an opening for a
