             How would you like if someone were trying to take away something that was valuable to you? These things might not seem important to others, but are important to you in every way. You have some people who agree with you and others who disagree. Both sides have some really good arguments that were brought forth on National Public Radio. The Native Americans want to keep their sacred places, but do not want to tell government officials were exactly they are located, so how would business know when they are buying land that is sacred to the Native Americans. National Public Radio's host Andy Bowers discussed the issue on Monday's edition of "All Things Considered".
             Most religions have sacred sites, but for many Native Americans it consist of an unmarked rock, or a mountain pass. In California were Indian ancient sacred sites have been built over for years. The California legislature has proposed a bill that would allow Native American Indians tribes to have a say in stopping development on sacred sites, even if they are on private property.
             In a suburban Long Beach California neighborhood, a 22-acre field located near by has significant meaning to local Native Americans. This is the place where their religion began. According to an anthropologist at California State Long Beach, who owns the land hopes that people will recognize this as a sacred site. The entire area is sacred to Native Americans the same way as Mecca is to Muslims. A couple of years ago the university planed to build a shopping complex on the land, but the Native Americans defeated the proposal. The current university president has vowed not to build anything on the land as long as he is president, but things might change when someone else goes into office. The anthropologist from California State hopes that a law will be passed so Native American will no longer have to worry about fighting off a contractor every few years.
