The New SAT

             The SAT is something most juniors and seniors in high school dread taking. A lot of students associate it with the cause of excess stress and tension. The SAT is a standardized test created by the College Entrance Examination Board to measure standards of curriculum for entrance into colleges and universities. Students usually must have scores from the SAT or another approved test, such as the ACT, to get accepted into a college. This year though, a new SAT is being given to juniors and seniors in the fall.
             The College Entrance Examination Board has redesigned the SAT by adding new sections and eliminating other sections. In the new SAT, the reading section now has shorter reading passages and no analogy questions. The writing section also has changes. There is now an essay required for the test, also. The math section has also been altered; there are now Algebra II questions on the test. Another change to the test is the point value of it. The perfect score for the old SAT was 1,600 and the new maximum score is 2,400.
             The new SAT will affect me quite a lot. I plan on taking the test in my junior and senior year, so I will have to adjust to the changes. I'm not sure if the changes are better for me personally, but I think that having the analogy questions eliminated will help me. Writing is somewhat of a strong point for me, so having an essay on the test might help too. Having an essay in the SAT will also give colleges a chance to see a different side of students that they might not have been able to see before.
             I think that the SAT changes are to my advantage and I'm somewhat glad for the changes. I think I will be able to express myself better and that will come out when universities are deciding during the entrance process. Having Algebra II questions on the test might be good too because I might get to demonstrate more of my strengths in math.
