Letter of Deficiencies
An accomplished cast and crew have been formed to recreate the distinguished play entitled "Medea." The cast has already been formed; the director and producer, as well as most other positions are held. The remaining positions needing of an owner are the technical crew, as well as the supervisor of the crew. Medea, originally produced in 431 BC, is a tragic and gruesome tragic play based around three principle character flaws, all leading up to their respective owners' demise. Medea of course, is full of vengeance, which abandons her near the end of the play, leaving her without any closure. Jason is very selfish and only interested in self-promotion; it is arguable that the death of his children is a direct result of his selfhood. The last character flaw represented in this play is found in Creon; he is easily swayed to agree with either side of an argument, and he is not very firm with his judgment. He allows Jason to convince him to banish Medea, but later is persuaded to allow Medea to stay for a day. This character foible leads to the death of his daughter, as well as himself. The intentions of my recreation are to emphasize the ridiculous antics shown by these three characters. I hope t
Your role, as supervisor, is crucial to bringing to life to all too real images of revenge, selfish acts and a flaccid tone. The purpose of this is to bring attention that they are acting out of the norm. Woods page 3I want the audience to recognize their irrational trains of thoughts, and see how foolish their character flaws are. For example, a cow would walk on four legs, while a monkey would walk on two or four legs. Medea would be dressed as a snake, as she thinks deviously of a master plan to make Jason suffer. /Jason: You loved them, and killed them. This understanding is an important concept to grasp; that realization however, is hindered by the grotesque animosity shown throughout this play. /Jason: Oh, wretch that I am, how I long/ To kiss the dear lips of my children! /Medea: Now you would speak to them, now you would kiss them. The entire cast will be costumed in various animal suites; most importantly a snake, cat and sheep for Medea, Jason and Creon respectfully. With that in mind, they will be dressed in animal costumes that coincide with the character flaws that will be emphasized. This masterpiece of a play contains the subtle message of the every day deficiencies. The childlike acts of the characters in this play must be represented.
