             The Five Pillars of Islam are the fundamental framework to a Muslim's existence. They were revealed to the last Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Allah. These Five Pillars are known as the basis of the Islamic religion:
             • Declaration of faith - Shahada
             • Prayer, five times a day - Salâh
             • Charity, concern for the needy - Zakâh
             • Fasting in the month of Ramadan - Sawm
             • Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able
             The Five Pillars are the major crucial obligations in the life of a Muslim. Shahadah is the first of the Five Pillars in Islam. Shahadah is more specifically a declaration of faith. A Muslim must declare and believe that Allah is the only God and Muhammad is His messenger. In order to be a Muslim it is vital that you acknowledge Allah is the supreme and holds all authority and also that Muhammad is the last prophet in a long line of prophets sent all by Allah. This declaration of faith that every Muslim internationally must concede to is the first pillar of Islam.
             Another pillar is the undertaking of frequent prayer. Prayer in Islam, otherwise referred to as Salâh is performed five times daily. Salâh forms a direct connection between Allah and His worshipper and is both a mental and physical regular act of submission before Allah. Salâh is a compulsory aspect to a Muslims life. Muslims perform Salâh in order to glorify, to praise, to repent, to ask for mercy, to ask for forgiveness and to ask Allah for guidance through life in everything that they may do. It takes the form of standing, reciting the Qur'an, bowing, prostrating and humbly sitting before god. Prayer is an obligatory procedure for all Muslims; men, women, and children above the age of 12 years old.
