             There are many techniques used to present ideas in drama and many of them are seen in Miller's contemporarily written 'The Crucible' and the older 'Macbeth' by Shakespeare. Despite the difference, many techniques are the same although the ideas may differ. Out of the many ideas and themes in 'Macbeth' the theme of ambition and its consequences, motives and ability to change people is most useful for displaying dramatic technique 'The Crucible' however discusses the theme of integrity and the effects that it has, in this case with a group of girls in an American town.
             Drama is indeed an effective way of presenting ideas to an audience. For the purpose of a play is not to be read or heard but to be acted out dynamically and dramatically. It is an asset for the writer and the audience to be able to actually see the ways the characters interplay and react to each other and also the build up of tension, which can be seen in the body language acted out by the performers. It is this extra dimension which can make a play more effective in presenting the playwright's ideas and themes, A visual approach can have a deeper impact than that of a book. In addition in a play there is an actor actually trying to be the character. This means that they must be more developed and rounded than those that may appear in a book. This may create a more complete plot line and in turn make the way the writer presents his ideas more effective. It can also be the degree to which the playwright uses these available aspects of theatre that can make a play a greater success and have a larger impact on the audience.
             There are many techniques which playwrights use to make the drama on stage more effective. These are often unique to the play format for they take advantage of the visual drama.
