Iraq War
Part IThe war with Iraq began on March 20, 2003, but war in Iraq has been prevalent for a long time. Iraq has been a threat to the safety of America and the world since the Gulf War and that threat was not going to decease until Saddam Hussein was thrown out of power. Saddam Hussein is the bully of the Middle East. President George W. Bush addressed the nation on March 20, 2003, at 10:15 p.m., 45 minutes after the first attacks were reported, stating that "American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger." (War Against Iraq and Sanger) This declaration came after months of debates with the United Nations and Congress, and most likely all over the world. The decision was a "sobering moment for the nation, because no presidential action is as consequential as the decision to go to war." (Kusnetz) President Bush stated that he had the support of over thirty five nations throughout the world, but two very strong and vocal countries, Germany and France, did not support President Bush in his decision to go to war. Congress had voted by overwhelming margins to allow President Bus
The United States also became known as the most powerful nation in the world when the cold war ended when the Soviet Union was no longer a threat to them. The President has strong convictions that the Iraqi leaders had accumulated large amounts of weapons of mass destruction, biological weapons, and may even have been on the verge of developing nuclear weaponry. Part II The United States ideology and political culture tends to lean towards being idealistic and moralistic but the people of the United State tend to be isolationists. h to make the decision of whether or not to declare war against Iraq in an effort to disarm them. They at least has homes to live in, food to eat and a job to go to. The issue of weapons of mass destruction has been an issue since the Gulf War. The United State's government is, without a doubt, very interested in what happens to the oil fields of Iraq. They are left with almost nothing and will not survive with major assistance. Congress and the President both play a big role in the development of foreign policy. The people of the United States want the war with Iraq over and their family members and friends to come home. But many people still did not understand why President Bush had declared war on Iraq. The public's opinion played only a minor role in the President's decision to declare war on Iraq, but it did not deter him from doing it. The war with Iraq may not be supported by all people of the United States, but fortunately the United States troops are. The President's claims of weapons of mass destruction are not yet proven and, even if only for re-election purposes,President Bush needs to prove the to United States citizens that the war against Iraq will be beneficial in some way to the nation and the world. But, I believe that many citizens feel that we are lucky to live in America and want others in the world to live a better life.
