Ethics

According to the dictionary, ethics is a set of moral principles or values. Morals are principles or standards with respect to right or wrong in conduct. Everyone has developed their own idea of what principles they should go by and what they think is right and wrong differently. For some, important people such as parents, friends, and teachers have been the main influence in their moral development. For others, religion has been an important part in their ethical growth. Certain experiences in life may have helped other people realize what is right and wrong, or may have simply helped them strengthen the ethical ideas they already have. Everyone's set of morals has been influenced by important people in their lives, religion, certain experiences in life, or all of these. My parents and the Catholic Church have been the main influences of my moral development. My father and mother have taught me right from wrong ever since I was old enough to understand. They taught me the principles that they lived by and helped me learn

So I asked one of the ladies standing near the kitchen if there was any soda. All in all, I have learned how significant respect really is. Everyone deserves consideration and regard as human beings. When I was in first grade, I had developed a bad habit of using the expression "duh" a great deal. This incident made quite a lasting impression on my moral development in several ways. Then one day I understood what it was like to be told such a thing. My mother would also tell me about her own experiences in problems much like my own and what she would do as a solution. I learned so much about respect from that unforgettable incident that my attitude towards others became that of a very respectful person. She looked at me with a critical glance and said "Well, duh there is!" I was so shocked and embarrassed at the way she replied to me. One way it affected me was that I began to be much more polite to others than before. My mother would tell me that it sounded very rude and disrespectful. I didn't think so, since all my popular friends said it. I have had many experiences in life that have proven to me that what I have been taught is true and crucial, but I believe that a certain incident was one of the most significant turning points in my ethical growth.
