Poverty In Frankestein

             In a world consumed by brand names and goods, we tend to see poverty as a lack of money and materialistic items. Poverty in its true definition should be based on other things because money isn't everything and cannot create a solid foundation for a healthy life. Poverty was used throughout the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelly as a theme, poverty was developed into the lack of love, friendship and family three things that shape the people and personalities one posses. Poverty was best demonstrated through the monster's constant experience of rejection amongst the people he wishes to be accepted by the most. It was also experienced best by the loss of loved ones in Frankenstein's life due to his creation and his thirst for knowledge. Finally based on Frankenstein's choices to create the monster the community suffers as well for their losses of family members, friends and the unity amongst the community.
             Poverty and the lack of essential needs in life was demonstrated when the monster experienced constant rejection by the people he desperately seeked acceptance from. The monster was to human beings hideous, terrifying and deformed, giving the human beings the idea that he could never be a wealthy companion. After the monster had spent considerable time watching the Delacey family he learned about many values necessary to become a loving friend and that's all he wanted to offer to the DeLacey's and receive in return. Having built up the courage one night to go in and start a relationship with the family his response was yet painful and shocking. "Great god!' exclaimed the old mad. 'Who are you?' 'At that instant the cottage door opened, and Felix, Safie and Agatha entered. Who can describe their horror and consternation on beholding me?
