Adopting a School Uniform Policy

             "We've all seen the tragic headlines screaming of the death of a teenager who was killed for a pair of sneakers or jewelry or a designer jacket. In Detroit a 15-year old boy was shot for his $86 basketball shoes. In Fort Lauderdale a 15-year old student was robbed of his jewelry. Just this past December in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a 17-year old honor student was killed at a bus stop, caught in the cross fire during the robbery of another students designer jacket" ( Bill Clinton, "Transcript," 1-2).
             School uniforms are a major point of discussion in public schools today. Many schools have already adopted a policy requiring school uniforms, and many more schools are thinking about it. School uniforms greatly benefit both the students and faculty by creating an atmosphere in which the students are able to get the most out of their education. They would encourage more concentration on studies and a sense of security in the school. Uniforms would also reduce drugs and violence in schools. I believe that all schools should have a policy requiring students to wear school uniforms. School uniforms encourage kids to focus on academics. When some students wake up in the morning, they can't decide what to wear. Many students will only wear designer jeans or shirts with the brand names. It also takes a lot of time for kids to get ready for school in the morning because of all of the choices. This may cause students to be late for school, and will cause them to fall behind in class. In school, focus may be placed on the clothes people wear instead of on schoolwork. School uniforms allow students to all look the same and not have to keep up with the fashion while at school.
