Wayne and Chan

             Images are texts that can, and should be read. Most of the time we don't know we're even doing it. The reading of an image often comes in the form of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. The significance of a piece that a viewer forms is unique to the individual viewer by that thoughts, and emotions are individual traits.
             Given that there are two images--both being of cowboys. One of John Wayne and the other of Jackie Chan. In further analyzation of the images one might ask what makes a cowboy, a cowboy? When one sees the image of one as supposed to the other, are their thoughts and feelings the same, or are they different? Certain images within the two photographs allow the viewer to analyze and interpret further. One of the images is of Jackie Chan, a popular martial arts film star known for his action packed comedic roles. When one sees Jackie chan the first thing to come to mind is most likely his ability to perform martial arts, not his role as an old west cowboy. Where Jackie is synanamous with martial arts, John wayne is with the old west and cowboys.
             Theres no doubt that when one thinks of the "old west" a certain list of peole suddenly comes to mind. Chances are, on the top of the list stands one name, synanomous with everything a cowboy encompasses. That one man is no other than John Wayne.
             More than just an actor playing the role of a Cowboy, John Wayne stands an American Idol. A man who possesses everything a man should strive to be.
             The photograph of John contains unwritten clues to who john really is and for what he stands for. The light is set in the foreground so that there is a shadow that is cast on the wall. The shadow carries a mysterious tone and further reinforces the no-nonsense look on John's face. His pistol is casualy drawn, almost with a "bring it on" type attitude.
