Hong Kong

Ever since Great Britain acquired Hong Kong from China in 1898 for a 99 year lease, Hong Kong has been the centre of influence in all areas of business, culture and people that live in the region. Originally gained by the British in 1841 as a result of the opium wars, Great Britain took control of Hong Kong Island because the Chinese had no chance of winning war against the British. The British later had to sign and agreement back to China in 1898, leasing the land because of trade practices and conflicts occurring from China, and this was the only way to peacefully establish connections without any problems. Today, Hong Kong is seen as the role for Asia's economy. Since the end of its Lease with the United Kingdom in 1997, Hong Kong managed to keep its economy and territory separate from China and was made into a Special Administrative Region, or SAR. One of the first things you will notice about Hong Kong is the new Hong Kong International Airport. Built in 1998, it was established to keep the noise level out of Hong Kong and to establish more international flights, since daily flights of many airplanes landing into Hong Kong's old Kai Tak International Airport, created problems for people, business and the region itself. Hong Kong is great place to go for a vacation, for business, or for both. A final place to take note of in Kowloon is Boundary Street, which is where the border was set in 1890 to separate British Hong Kong and China from 1860-1898. Each of these parts of Hong Kong all have something different to see and something new to experience. The most appropriate thing to do, of course, it go to shopping. No matter which way you go, you are sure to be excited to make you way to Hong Kong. The Buddhist monastery is also located here and has 13,000 Buddhist images located inside. Stanley Market is one of the most popular places to shop for, ranging in items from clothes, jewelry, and electronics to items that are unusual and items that you can't find anywhere else. The Northern Territories is the part of Hong Kong that borders China. Getting to Hong Kong is almost accessible from any part of the world. The world's most expensive Hotel, the Peninsula Hotel also is located in Kowloon. The Museum of History, Space Museum and Science museum are all located in Kowloon and provide insightful information on different historical events that happened in Hong Kong and also different events that happened in neighborhood China. is Airport was completely manmade and built completely out of the sea. You can also see the famous Clocktower, where the once Orient Express traveled to, with the clocktower being its last stop. Many exciting places to see lie in Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's airline has several flights from North America, with many daily flights out of California and New York.
