Napoleon
Napoleon is known as the father of nationalism. He was the first emperor or leader to introduce nationalism to Europe and eventually the world. Nationalism is a powerful force in a country, which can impact a nation dramatically. By creating a spectrum of extreme nationalism and minor nationalism you can assume that along the spectrum different results are created. As seen in history, by meeting at the median of a nationalistic spectrum a nation can greatly benefit from this force. Governments should therefore promote national anthems, military support and the will of the group rather than the individual or tyrant like Napoleon or Robespierre nor reduce rights or freedoms to strive as a country of nationalism. By supporting national anthems, unique holidays, and equality it creates a sense of pride within the country. The French anthem "Marseillaise" included words and phrases stating liberation, pride, equality and nationalism. The anthem provided and created a sense of uniqueness and unity. The Declaration of the Rights of Man of 1789 created equality across France allowing more respect for another individual. This document ushered in a new era of equality, rights, and freedoms,
There was no criticism of the government or foreign government, Foreign news was censored, and the goal was to build good citizens rather than intellects that would want to overthrow the government. It supported communism in the sense that people were forced to wear and look the same. The Republic of Virtue enforced worship the "Supreme Being" which was an attack against Christianity. We have and will continue to learn about nationalism throughout history. Ultimately, France would fall back to the old ways of France will minor social and political changes. July 14, 1789 is Bastille Day, which represents the fall of the monarchy and a pathway to liberty, equality, and fraternity which later leads to a stronger national force. In summary, different strengths of nationalism have different effects of a nation and should be used with caution. The people of France fell in love with their new leader Napoleon and were willing to die for their country such as suicide bombers is willing to today. Napoleon became power hungry and wanted more. 40 000 men, women and children were killed during this short period of time. The people of France started to question Napoleon's decisions as a leader and supporters were dropping. After killing the king Louis XVI he came to power and started the "Reign of Terror" and the Republic of Virtue. As seen, some people have different ideas on nationalism and can implement nationalism in the wrong way.
