Racism In America

             He had a dream. When this simple but powerful statement is made most everyone listens and has their own take on exactly what constitutes racism. Racism is objectively defined as any practice of ethnic discrimination or segmentation. Prejudice is an adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts. Prejudice is thought to be somehow more repressible. But as most people have witnessed, racism is never shrugged off. It is a living part of the many American's daily lives and will be until people step up to the plate and take responsibility for their view. Not only do we as Americans need to tackle the open racism, we need to recognize that there are also such things as violent racism and covert racism. No one totally understands racism and in order to make this "dream" become reality we all need to have a little lesson on what exactly constitutes racism and some ways that is can be over come. I will also give you some personal experiences that I have been through and talk about a journal article that a woman by the name of Nina Eliasoph wrote. It is my dream that this paper will make you more aware of racism that is occurring everyday in America.
             Racism is asserted; it is no longer blatant. People are reluctant to express openly their dislike or the contempt for minorities. Racisms presence throughout our culture is quit evident and how racist views are passed along from parents to children. Frequently throughout history the ethnic group with the most power has assumed that its race and culture are superior to others and plays a leading role in writing the history while the lower races play a subordinate role. Racism's roots lie deep within the foundation of our society and there are three main types of racism that need to be addressed.
