"Smoking Jeopardizes Everyone"
            
             Have you ever been out eating at a public restaurant, or walking in a grocery store, or shopping at the mall and you found it hard to breath? It seems that in this day and age, smoke is all around you everywhere you go. It is at the mall, in the grocery store, and even at nice restaurants. No matter where you go, you can't escape the smell, the linger, or the harmful effects it has on your body. We feel that there should be a law to ban smoking in public places. Breathing tobacco smoke can harm anyone, but it is especially harmful to young children, the elderly community, and those with respiratory problems.
             In a recent study, it has shown that breathing second hand smoke has ended the lives of over 53,000 Americans this year. It is said to be the number one cause of death in America today. Over 430,000 Americans are dying each year of smoking related causes. Several cases have shown that smoking is bad for your health. It makes you smell when you leave a public place and it also puts out negative effects for people who do not even smoke. Smoking in public restaurants can also have a great impact on the decrease in sales. It is believed that some people avoid smoking restaurants and places whenever possible because there is nothing that ruins the taste of good food more than smoke. If people wanted to eat where there was smoking involved, then they would probably go to bars instead of restaurants.
             We recently interviewed several people on Lon Morris College Campus to find out their views on smoking in public places. Bridget, who is a freshman student here at the college, thinks that smoking in public restaurants and places is ridiculous. If she wanted to jeopardize her health with smoke, then she would already be smoking. She doesn't want to go out and inhale second hand smoke.
