Waiting for Time and Place

In accordance to the theatre of the absurd, time and place are often emphasized by main characters because of the struggle when and where they are. This is often emphasized to create a specific mood for the viewer or reader to subsequently deliver much perplexity into their minds and further extend the absurdity of the play. In Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, the main characters Vladimir and Estragon constantly confuse and sometimes forget completely about time and place, thus making the play entirely timeless and more or less altogether without setting. Vladimir and Estragon continually forget what they have done, even a day before (yesterday) and as well their absentmindedness also contributes to the absurdity of the play. When dealing with place, it is thought by many is that Vladimir and Estragon have wholly confused the setting of the play with perhaps their habitats.Vladimir and Estragon consistently continue to forget what they have done prior to their current state. Estragon asks, "What did we do yesterday?"Vladimir then asks in return, "What did we do yesterday?"

They seem to just waste away by living routine-based lives, not worried whatsoever about their time spent doing nothing at all. Do you not remember? We nearly hanged ourselves from it. Vladimir states, "The tree, look at the tree. The absentmindedness of the main characters Vladimir and Estragon also contributes to the absurdity of the play. ) Nothing is certain when you're about. This set quote displays that they indeed have no idea what they have done, or what they have been doing. "To which Estragon asks, "Was it not there yesterday?"Then Vladimir responds in confusion, "Yes of course it was there. And that was all yesterday, you say?" And Vladimir replies, "Yes of course it was yesterday.
